It’s not a secret that I’m a rodeo fan, a lot of people are. However there are a lot of folks who have never been to a rodeo and a lot of them who just think watching guys and girls competing in the same events used a hundred years ago to help expand the west, might just not be their cup of tea. So why should those folks go to the Big 94.5 Country Topeka PRCA Rodeo at the North Topeka Saddle club? For the kids! The rodeo is a fundraiser for the North Topeka Saddle Club. Our community needs to keep this arena open and accessible. You see, Shawnee County Kansas Park & Recreation is great a providing many areas for kids and their families to gather and play or compete. In fact, the Shawnee County Parks & Rec maintains 41 baseball/softball diamonds, 3 soccer complexes, 5 aquatic centers and 5 basketball courts as well as numerous parks, shelters and community centers. However, for families wanting to participate in activities with their horses, the county offers nothing. The North Topeka Saddle club provides its arena free of charge to 4H, FFA and other youth groups. And although the North Topeka Saddle club is a 501c3, it is still required to pay property taxes. As you can see, fundraising to keep this arena going is essential.
Established in 1949, The North Topeka Saddle club has been around for generations, helping families teach their kids the joy and responsibilities of animal ownership. We invite you to come to any of our summer activites including “Playday fun shows” and “Thursday night Jackpots” on alternating Thursday nights during the summer. But of course, we really look forward to our PRCA rodeo August 22 and August 23, 2014. And at the risk of asking too much, You would like to get involved? The North Topeka Saddle Club is always looking for new members and new families to join in the fun!
