I’ve been blessed to meet many Country Music Stars, Actors, and even politicians. But I thought I’d share a story about how I first met Linda Ronstadt, since she is being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and had great influence on many of the stars of today.
Linda’s story is somewhat unique, in that she couldn’t make the trip to New York for her induction, because she suffers from a disease that touches many of our families. She actively campaigns for awareness for Parkinson’s Disease, which has provided great challenges, and almost silenced a great career.
Linda’s father ran a hardware store in Tucson, Arizona. As a young man, my father gave me the duty of finding a shovel handle, and it happened that I walked into the store while she was visiting. Somehow, I got up the gumption to say hello, she couldn’t have been more than about 19 at the time, and I was even younger. I had no idea I was meeting someone who later would be the source of many songs I played on the radio. You never can tell when someone you meet will later be of great consequence. If we all treated each other like that, the world would be a friendlier place!
